What is a framing chart?
A printed or displayed chart, photographed through the production camera and lens, that marks the intended framing: full sensor area, the extraction ratio(s) being delivered, center cross, and safe areas. It travels with the footage as the authoritative framing reference.
Why shoot a framing chart on set?
Because framing intent doesn't survive by word of mouth. A chart shot through the actual optics captures exactly what the camera saw, so dailies, VFX, and finishing can all align their extractions to the same reference instead of guessing.
What are action safe and title safe areas?
Margins inside the picture edge that keep important content clear of overscan and platform UI. Modern HD/UHD practice commonly uses around 93% of the frame for action safe and 90% for title safe, though delivery specs vary — the generator lets you set exact percentages.
Can I make charts for anamorphic formats?
